Upper Campus Sculptures

The Permanent Art Collection’s outdoor sculptures extend even further than just the main academic buildings on campus. The following sculptures decorate upper campus, as well as the exterior of the Human Sciences and Services building located on Water Street.

Landings. Actual Size Artworks. Steel, Concrete.
Gail Simpson and Aristotle Georgiades form Actual Size Artworks, a duo that creates sculptural installations. Landings is made up of stainless-steel tubing, colored concrete, and rebar reinforcement.
It is located outside of Chancellor’s Hall in an attempt to split up the large open space and provide a socializing area for students. The sculpture was gained through Wisconsin’s Percent for Art Program in 2001.
High Noon 7. Edward McCollough. Steel.
High Noon 7 is a stainless-steel sculpture located on UW-Eau Claire’s upper campus by the McPhee Center in 1990. Edward McCollough was inspired by a conversation he had with Nietzsche scholar Deborah Hayden about the weeds at high noon.
According to McCollough, Hayden said something along the lines of, “It's at this time of day, when the sun's directly overhead and radiating intense heat, that weeds extend their leaves out to the maximum distance to protect their seeds just underneath in the ground." Edward McCollough is from Cicero, Illinois and received his bachelor's degree and master’s degree in art from Illinois State University in 1962 and 1966 respectively.
Allied Health. Jack Becker. Steel.
Created by Jack Becker, the Allied Health sculpture is made from welded steel and is coated in a blue enamel. Previously a student at UW-Eau Claire, Becker was commissioned to make a sculpture to be placed outside the new Human Sciences and Services building on Water Street by the Wisconsin Art State Board’s Percent for Art Program in 1984.
